Adult Faith Formation
Most Catholic parishes pour the majority of their educational resources into the children in the parish with a standardized curriculum for Pre-K through 12th grade. Simultaneously, they provide little to no faith formation for adults. According to our bishops, our priorities have been topsy-turvey!In their Pastoral Plan for Adult Faith Formation in the United States, the U.S. Bishops write:"The Church wisely and repeatedly insists that adult faith formation is essential to who we are and what we do as Church and must be situated not at the periphery of the Church's educational mission but at its center ... While most Catholic parishes place a high priority on the faith formation of children and youth, far fewer treat adult faith formation as a priority."At our parish, we put adult faith formation at the center of our educational mission and take adult catechesis seriously.

Communion & Liberation - School of Community (official website)
The glory of God is man fully alive. Communion & Liberation is an ecclesial movement whose purpose is the education to Christian maturity of its adherents and collaboration in the mission of the Church in all the spheres of contemporary life. It synthesizes the conviction that the Christian event, lived in communion, is the foundation of the authentic liberation of man. CL is today present in about seventy countries throughout the world. There is no type of membership card, but only the free participation of persons. The basic instrument of formation is weekly catechesis called "School of Community." At St. Mary's, School of Community meets every Thursday evening in the upstairs meeting room of the Cornerstone Building between 7:15 and 8:30 PM. Anyone is free to come. Call Tim Smith at (281) 932-1549 for more information or to have your questions answered.

The Rite of Christian Initation of Adults (more info)
Did you know that the R.C.I.A. process is not only for those who are not Catholic but also for Catholics who have not received the sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation? If you have not received these sacraments, then you are a candidate for instruction through our R.C.I.A. program. If you would like to have an opportunity to serve the R.C.I.A. in a volunteer capacity, please contact Shaun Terry at (979) 203-4204.

R.C.I.A. is primarily designed for those who are not Catholic and desire to inquire into Catholicism. Should an inquirer decide to "become Catholic," R.C.I.A. provides the opportunity to do so, free of any coercion. Our R.C.I.A. sessions include prayer, fellowship, food, childcare, Biblical teaching, small group discussion, and much, much more.

If you are already Catholic and simply desire to brush up on your Faith, learn more about how our Faith comes from the Scriptures, and fellowship with other people in our parish family, you are also welcome to take part in R.C.I.A. by auditing the process.

Praying the Our Father in Mass
Many of us hold our hands outward in what is known as the orans prayer position during the Pater Noster or "Our Father" during Mass. Dr. Peter Edwards teaches canon law at the Sacred Heart Major Seminary up in Detroit, Illinois, and he has written an insightful article on the use of the orans prayer position in Mass.
